On the brink of being shut out, again, the Mets rose from the dead last night. After having slept on it, I still haven’t decided what the best part of it was. Could it be that in came in the form of a Michael Conforto home run? Could be; he’s been atrocious. Could it be that in happened in the top of the 9th, down 1-0? Could be; backs were against the wall and they showed guts and resilience. Could it be that the comeback was at the expense of the Phillies? Could be; there’s not much to like about the Phillies or Philadelphia in general.
Irregardless, it was a massive victory for the Mets. They were 2 outs away from falling to a .500 record (the Mets began the season 11-1). It would have been their 4th time getting shut out in 9 games. It would have been their 9th loss in 10 games. The Mets pulled a big win out of their asses last night, and it could not have come at a better time. Michael Conforto’s 2-run bomb got me off my couch in hysterics. I was still up on my feet when Devin Mesoraco went YAHTZEE on the very next pitch. Half of the Mets didn’t even see the home run, which resulted in this beautiful snapshot.
It’s one win against a team who, frankly, the Mets are better than. The Mets are not back by any means, but it would have been a crushing blow of a loss. Steven Matz pitched well enough to keep the Mets in the game. The bats have been asleep for weeks. Last night’s 9th inning was exactly what the Mets needed. IF they’re going to turn things around, Conforto and Mesoraco’s back-to-back jacks are sure to be the catalyst. Fuck the Phillies. Syndergaard and deGrom on the bump today and tomorrow. Don’t hate that one bit.
