Wrestling has never moved the needle for me. For whatever reason I’ve never been a fan. I didn’t grow up watching it despite having close friends and family being absolutely obsessed. Even now a ton of people I hang with view Monday Night Raw and other wrestling events as appointment television. It blows my mind how popular it is. There are plenty of interests I have that I’m sure others would scoff at, TV shows included. As for me personally, the fictional story lines of the WWE and wrestling don’t do it for me.
With all that said I do appreciate the theatrics and general ridiculousness that wrestling provides even if it is fake, staged, whatever. The embellishment of the hits garners massive respect from me just because of how over the top it is. I’d be a hypocrite if I said I wasn’t a sucker for the excessive flare that wrestling provides. And this….THIS video is laugh out loud funny. Suplexing the Big Show in and of itself is funny as fuck. But breaking the ring is beyond the boundaries of reasonable expectations, even in wrestling. Watching the corner pillars collapse was peanuts compared to the referee going overboard and seemingly dying as a result. And based on the emotion from the announcers and fans, he may have actually died. Referee John Cone said, “They went to the top rope, and the next thing I know I’m tumbling out of the ring…”. Can’t make this stuff up. What a line. I may be a wrestling fan now.
It would be a great disservice not to praise the crowd for their exuberance and authentic reactions to the absurdity of what had happened. Die hard fans foaming out at the mouth and chomping at the bit for something jaw dropping, and this fit the bill tenfold. The Big Show and Braun Strowman are just hamming it up lying there like dead men, the referee actually dead, and the ring in shambles; it was the perfect storm of serendipity that can evoke real reactions from eager fans. They’re celebrating and hugging like they won the goddamn lottery. Only wrestling, man. Unbelievable. Funniest video I’ve seen in a long time.
