U.S. News: The more than two-year-long hunt for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 will be suspended once the current search area in the Indian Ocean has been completely scoured, the three countries conducting the operation announced Friday, possibly ending all hopes of solving aviation’s greatest mystery. …
“In the absence of new evidence, Malaysia, Australia and China have collectively decided to suspend the search upon completion of the 120,000-square-kilometer (46,300-square-mile) search area,” Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said after a meeting with his Australian and Chinese counterparts. …
Australian Transport Minister Darren Chester said experts will continue to analyze data and inspect debris but added, “Future searches must have a high level of success to justify raising hopes of loved ones.” The Boeing 777 vanished on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014. It is believed to have turned back west and then south before dropping into the Indian Ocean west of Australia, where the search has been concentrated. Much of what happened to the plane remains a mystery, though the Malaysian government has concluded that it was deliberately steered off course. Liow said the search, hampered by bad weather and damaged equipment, will end by December.
Although the ministers were at pains to say they were not permanently ending the search, it is evident that it is highly unlikely to continue after that, given how few clues have emerged since the disappearance of the plane.
Just letting you guys know that this goddamn plane is still out there. Everyone basically forgot about it after this first month. Not this guy. Not me. I don’t forget about airplanes that fucking disappear. I have a long documented history of keeping tabs on MH370. It blows my mind how we can lose an airplane. I literally cannot fathom how that’s even possible. We can track individual sharks in the depths of the Pacific but we can’t find a Boeing 777. I guess the thing just vanished into thin air. Abducted by aliens perhaps. Maybe it’s a Lost situation where the plane is on a secret, remote island and all the passengers are actually okay. Considering that the search thus far has been unsuccessful, I think it would be foolish to rule either of those possibilities out before thorough investigation. Or maybe the plane is at the bottom of the ocean. How about y’all get down there and turn on the submarine high beams and find the plane? Sometimes it feels like I’m the only person with a brain who cares about this airplane.
Yesterday they said they’ve been searching the wrong area. THEY SAID THEY’VE BEEN SEARCHING THE WRONG AREA. Today they say that when they finish searching the area that has been deemed “wrong”, they’re going to end the search. What? Hang a left turn and start searching outside the search perimeter that we already know to be inaccurate. I get the impression that whoever is heading this search party is afraid to admit that they’ve been digging the wrong hole for 2+ years. There’s zero harm in opening new doors and suggesting alternative actions. Plan A hasn’t worked. Time for Plan B, Plan C, and Plan D. How are they gonna disregard the report that says they’ve been wrong from the jump? Bro the plane GLIDED DOWN. It didn’t take a fucking nose dive. Start looking other places you jerkoffs.
Airplanes don’t disappear. Someone knows something. Or it’s gross incompetence and negligence. Let’s strap in and find this thing. If Clinton or Trump make any effort towards locating MH370, they’ve got my vote. And you can’t quote me on that.
