Boston College Senior Reflects On His Basketball Career And It’s Downright Hysterical

This is a day or two late, but I wanted to make sure I got in my two cents because we may come back to this one at the end of the year as a Video of the Year nominee.  If this isn’t in the top 10, it will be a historic year of funny viral videos.  Absolutely hilarious and sad at the same time.  4 years of college basketball just came to an end, and Dennis Clifford reflects on the meals he ate with his teammates.  Obviously he meant how strong is bond was with his teammates and the camaraderie and brotherhood that develops within a team.  But you can’t help but laugh with the way this unfolded.  Sinking into an emotional state of tears and spitting out “going out to eat” perfectly sums up the state of BC sports.  Haven’t won a game in forever, maybe even worse than Rutgers.  So ya gotta give this kid credit for sticking through that for 4+ years.

As someone who has spent more time than most on the bench, I see where he’s coming from.  If you would have asked me after my varsity soccer season what my best memory was, my answer would be completely unrelated to any one game or moment on the field, albeit there were only a few.  Our team also stunk.  The time spent with my teammates was by far and away the best part of that season.  Had we been a winning team, we’re having an entirely different conversation.

What really amazes me is that the media members were all able to keep their composure and not burst out laughing.  It probably would have come off as incredibly insensitive given Clifford’s emotional state, but that answer was laugh out loud funny.  I would have had to leave the room had I not been kicked out for laughing right in his crying face.  I always wonder how people on set of movies don’t ruin takes by laughing when comedians are in front of a camera doing ad lib bits or are improvising lines.  But thank you Dennis Clifford for this moment.  Congrats on winning like two games in four years, but thank you for this.
