It’s easy to be average. It’s easy to roll with the punches and let life guide you. But it doesn’t have to be like that. We all control what happens to us (to an extent). Do not settle. Do not be okay with “good enough”. Do not get complacent. Be ambitious. Dream. Aim high and go get it.
“Any man who selects a goal in life which can be fully achieved has already defined his own limitations.” – Cavett Robert
Set a goal for yourself that seems undoable. Making a goal to feasible limits your potential. Don’t aim to lose 5 lbs, aim to lose 6 lbs. Because if you don’t, you’ll stop at 5 lbs lost, when there’s still room to improve. But you’ll have already decided to quit because you reached the goal already.
“The more goals you set, the more goals you get.” – Mark Victor Hansen
Every Sunday night I write down my goals for the week. Rather than sitting and thinking about all the things I have to do, and getting overwhelmed while doing so, I literally write them down. It’s a constant reminder of the things I want/have to do. I can’t forget about them if they’re staring me in the face every morning. Set a lot of goals, and raise the bar too.
“Discontent is the first necessity of progress.” – Thomas Edison
Good enough is not good enough. Don’t ever be happy with what you have, always strive for more. Restlessness is discontent. When you wake up not happy with your current situation (financially, physically, emotionally, etc.), do something about it.
“Have a dream so BIG that you cannot achieve it until you grow into the person who can.”
This quote stood out to me because it explains how my life isn’t going to change overnight. Every day should be a step closer to the end goal. And on the path towards that end goal, I will have to grow as a person because without change, no difference will be made.
“The key to success is to focus our conscious mind on things we desire, not things we fear.” – Brian Tracy
Always move forward. Don’t let past struggles keep you down, and don’t let obstacles deter you from making progress. I’ve grown frustrated with not having a job and a steady stream of income. Rather than feeling sorry for myself, I work hard to change my situation and get what I want (to fill those hungry pockets).
Don’t settle. You can be better than who you are today. You can do big things if you make big changes, buckle down, and make sacrifices for the big picture. If it’s not gonna challenge you, it’s not gonna change you.
