Positive thinking is a decision that we all make. The things that are out of our control are exactly that, out of our control. What we can control is how we feel. “Your attitudes, your emotions, they directly coincide with how you see the world”. If we choose to see the world in a positive light, we will start to see more happiness come our way. It’s not karma, and it’s not a coincidence. It’s a simple yet powerful shift in mentality that all people can adopt.

You get to work on Monday morning to find that you have 30 emails and your coworker called in sick so you have to make up for that extra workload. Most people would sulk and wonder why shit like that happens to them (only them). That mentality will accomplish nothing and will negatively affect the quality of your work. But rather seeing it as a challenge to prove yourself and that you can do it against the odds, wouldn’t that be better? The work has to get done, so suck it up, grab your balls, and get to it. “Don’t waste your time with thoughts that aren’t bringing you closer to your goal. There’s just no value in it”.

It’s easy to preach this, but to put an attitude like this into practice is where people are often divided. If you let external factors affect your decision making, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Some days are better than others, but why can’t every day be a good day? There’s way more substance, way more value in finding the good in something.

Your attitude is what determines how receptive you’ll be towards an opportunity. Succumbing to those negative feelings not only creates incredible obstacles but it also deprives you of success and that freedom we all so strongly yearn for.
