Official BEC Review: Pantry 1

It’s taken quite a while, but I finally overcame my unfair disdain, put my pride aside, and visited the grounds where Wawa used to lay.  I never gave Pantry 1 a fair shake from the beginning.  I hated them because they weren’t Wawa, and I thought it would be impossible for anything worthy can replace it.  I sit here today a humbled man, with a belly full of one of their handcrafted breakfast sandwiches.

I saw the chef preparing someone else’s sandwich and it was gigantic, good sign right off the bat.  The touch screen ordering system was different but turned out to be different in a good way.  I got to choose the type of bacon I wanted.  AWESOME.  I elected your standard pork bacon, but the turkey bacon option caught my attention.  I got to pick the type of bread, I went with an everything bagel, picked out the bagel myself actually, so that was a nice touch.  Can’t put a price on customer/chef interaction.  This is the thing that blew my mind; I’ve heard rumblings about it but needed to see it to believe it.  You get to pick what kind of eggs you want.  Scrambled, egg whites, fried egg, over easy, and more.  I’ve never had such difficulty ordering a BEC, but I could tell it was going to be worth it.  Oh, and you already know I had to had a hash brown to the sandwich.

This was one of the best Bacon Egg and Cheese’s I’ve ever had.  Really gives All-American Deli a run for its money.  Really gives any place a run for its money.  No joke, it’s right up there with the best of them,  It was almost falling apart because it was such a loaded sandwich.  It’s one of the better problems to have when you come in contact with a BEC.  Size matters.  They piled the bacon on top of the bacon, so no complaints there obviously.  The fried egg was cooked nicely, the hash brown was the perfect addition, and you already know how I feel about the white American cheese.  What a sandwich.

I take back every bad word I’ve said about Pantry 1, and that includes mean thoughts that were never expressed publicly.  There is absolutely room in town for both Pantry 1 and Wawa.  Pantry 1 can hang any day of the week.  Still don’t love the name, might have to pick a nickname for this place.  I’m thinking either P1’s or The Pantry.

Official Score: 9.7 out of 10

  1. Just to let you know….the cheeses are not Boars head, along with some of their deli meats. But they charge Boars head prices.
