A Look At The Numbers Two Years Later

TheEricHammer.com is officially two years old today.  What a day.  Making the move from a blog I started on Blog.com (seriously) to WordPress was absolutely integral in the success of this site.  The difference between the two is like night and day.  There have been good days and bad.  Some days, I’m on my game, can write about anything.  Other days, a great story comes out, and I can’t put pen to paper.  Can’t control the creative juices sometimes.  I’ll go through hot streaks where I bang out 3 blogs in a day.  Then I’ll get into a funk and write three in a week.  Once in a while I write a fire blog that gets basically no views, that’s pretty upsetting.  I try to time out when I post blogs in order to get the most traffic.  Sunday nights generate massive numbers, as do Monday nights.  There’s a lot that goes into it that nobody takes into account.  All in all, most of the feedback I’ve gotten has been positive and motivating.  Just a hobby for now, I would love to figure out ways to monetize my writing in the near future.  But for now, check out some of the stats:

Total blogs written: 367 – There were 2 blogs written but never posted and one deleted for unimportant reasons.  One (never posted) was about the homeless people that infiltrated the Rutgers library during finals time.  When I finished writing it, I proofread it, which I normally do not do, and realized it was way too mean, even for me.

Total views all time: 52,928 – An average of 145 views on each blog written, I’ll take it.  There are some blogs that have gotten very few views and others that have been seen by thousands (5 have recorded over 1600 hits).  Breaking it down a little further, that’s 73 people reading my site every single day over the past 2 years.  It doesn’t seem like much, but it’s pretty rewarding.

154 countries have checked into this site.  By far the most astounding number.  I’m not sure who was reading my blogs from countries such as Uzbekistan, Ethiopia, and Botswana (2 views), but someone, somehow, someway, at some point, for some reason stumbled onto TheEricHammer.com.  They probably get my site as a popup ad when they try to watch porn.  But I know for a fact not all of these countries can afford computers so that’s just a complete mystery.  Ignorance is bliss.

1 blog was framed.  My good friends over at Hansel N Griddle were kind enough to frame and share my words with the New Brunswick community.  To this day, it has not been stolen off the wall, so I gotta chalk that up as a win.  When I first started writing blogs, never once did I anticipate anyone would ever appreciate my thoughts so much that it would get FRAMED.  Crazy.

Sadly, I cannot identify the exact number of people I have pissed off.  I can tell you that I’ve started controversy many many times, and lots of people have expressed their disagreement with me.  I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love that.  I upset enough people to be kicked out of the Manalapan Residents Facebook Group, after being voted on by the board of admins of that group.  No joke, the admins took a vote and majority ruled to kick me out of the group.  Can’t put a number or a price on that.  I also can’t count how many times I’ve said something that someone disagrees with and they responded with “Blog about it!”  That’s the worst.

Here’s to making the numbers skyrocket over the next 12 months.  And here are some of the most popular blogs I’ve written AND some of the least popular ones that haven’t gotten a fair shake.  Shouldn’t be hard to tell which ones are which:
