FoxBusiness: Just in time for beach season, TGI Fridays is launching an all-you-can-eat promotion that’s decidedly not diet-friendly. The summer-long “Endless Appetizers” deal offers customers unlimited orders of loaded potato skins, pot stickers, mozzarella sticks, bruschetta, spinach dip, boneless wings and crispy green-bean fries – all for $10 per person.
It’s on public record how big of an Applebee’s fan I am. My credentials are well proven, you can ask anyone. I am an appetizer connoisseur. Love em. I don’t think I’ve ordered an entree in years, I live straight off of the first page of a menu. Fair or not, I haven’t even given Friday’s the time of day. It’s just not as good as Applebee’s, facts are facts. But this is just pure genius. Friday’s is back on the map with this move. This is Miley Cyrus cutting her hair and getting naked on stage. Like it or not, your attention is diverted its way. Applebee’s isn’t the threat here, though. Friday’s is trying to compete against the Chipotles and the Panera Breads of the world that are DOMINATING the food industry. Nobody has time to sit down for a full meal anymore. That all changes now. $10 for unlimited appetizers is UNHEARD OF. Guaranteed that people thought I would stand true to Applebee’s and attack Friday’s for this move. On the contrary. Friday’s took the appetizer game and flipped in on its head.
Everyone is putting way too much thought into this. It’s not about Friday’s or Applebee’s or anyone. It’s about me sitting at a table ordering 1000 boneless buffalo wings and 1000 mozzarella sticks and paying $10 for them. Friday’s has just implemented an offer that I didn’t think was possible. Doesn’t matter if they’re going out of business in a month. Doesn’t matter if it’s a last minute ploy to try to stay afloat in an industry they’re being dominated in. What a move. Clean it up Applebee’s.
Well played, Friday’s.
